Saint John Energy is officially known as “The Power Commission of the City of Saint John”. It was formed in 1922 as a Commission of the City to distribute electricity to the citizens of the City of Saint John. Saint John Energy presently serves over 36,000 customers.

The Pan Maritime Provinces Municipal EV Charging Stations Initiative (Consortium) is a collaboration between, The Power Commission of the City of Saint John (Saint John Energy), City of Saint John, City of Edmundston, Village of Perth-Andover, the City of Summerside and the Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA).  AREA is partnership between the towns of Berwick, Mahone Bay and Antigonish.

The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) is a funding program from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), with the aim to deploy zero-emission vehicle charging (level 2 and higher) and refuelling stations in more localized areas where Canadians live, work and play.  The Consortium formed to apply for
funding under the first infrastructure stream, targeting Public Places and On-Street parking, in 2019. The Consortium’s application under the program is led by Saint John Energy (SJE). 

The Project aims to provide a diverse regional network of Level 2 Electric Vehicle charging stations “EV Charging Stations” throughout the Maritime provinces. The Project will be undertaken collaboratively by our group of municipal electric utilities, individually a “MEU” and collectively the “Consortium”, who have agreed to collaborate on this
project.
